Mimma Umeton
was born in Lucca in 1949 where she attended the Art Institute. To gain experience
in different artistic milieux, she moved to Rome. This was in 1968. At the
Fine Arts Academy, she met a sculptor. Her association with this artist was
to become fundamental for her training. Long walks in Trastevere, the osterias
where she sketched with the maestro who recalls his own belle epoque in the
happy bistrots of Montmartre. Easy to imagine Renoir, Monet, Cezanne... a
song of essentials. Mimma listens patiently and sketches, sketches...
The first pastels are created, the colors are glowing, sumptuous and yet disquieting,
with something in pain. Since '73, she has exhibited at various personal shows
in Italy and abroad. She moves on to the off-track betting shop period. Now
she is involved a new production.
